....losing export markets too with the similar ractopamine product. These beta antagonists are banned in about 160 countries because of alleged human health concerns. They seem to make the cattle harder to handle, more easily stressed and the implication is that this "nervousness" is passed onto the consumer when they eat the beef. I don't know about that but I know that lean, high stress flighty cattle make for bland, tasteless, tough beef. Europe is full of them - all the Limos and the Limo wannabes.

A more extensive article on the same topic. All good for the future of my grass-fed beef retailing program Wink

Last year my dad and I purchased 4 - 1/2 Wagyu x Angus heifers. They were all bred to a Wagyu bull, or so we thought. The guy loaded the wrong heifer and we got a full blood Wagyu bull that had been implanted in one of the heifers. I will be giving him back and getting another heifer for it. The other 3 heifers had heifer calves. All 4 - 1/2 Wagyu x Angus cows were bred back to my dads Angus bull. If we get some bulls I am going to finish them on grass.

The guy I got them from said it takes 24 to 26 months for prime and 18 to 20 for top choice. He is feeding corn silage.

Picture is a 1/2 Wagyu x Angus carcass he sent me.

the last dumbass Angus breeder comment I read at Advantage was they had fed out two groups of Angus while you fed one group of Wagyu...since both had cattle to feed during this same time period; my mind response to him was don`t tell me how many you fed; tell me what profit you made... I don`t think I would like that steak; which reminds how glad we can all be for Jack Sprat and his wife...all beef gets eaten by someone somewhere somehow... Smile
