What about the colored-bar diagram (http://www.accelgen.com/Genomics.aspx) that LL brought up before in the Reflections thread? How does that play into this? Seems to me that the AJ article assumed an equal influence from both parents. Do you think the bulls they used were so outcrossed that it didn't matter? It would have been a more convincing article if they tested the fire and ice mating vs a more inbred mating.

Only when EPD breeding is confused with "basic genetics", perhaps?

I found Diagram 3 particularly enlightening. Rolling Eyes

I think the article is actually a back-handed, unintended endorsement of inbreeding as the only means to reduce variation...one of the myth/fallacy promotions I abhor is the "5 generations" of proven bulls behind our bulls...if the current generation is truly proven, who gives a flip about the prior generations?
oh, yes, marketing bs`ers... Exclamation

Proven for what? Plenty of extremely sorry inconsistent sires have 5,000 + calves and high accuracy numbers.

this is a favored university authored read of mine...LL critiqued it as not offering solutions...maybe we can offer the solutions when we understand the why`s...
