Pats full brothers are likely from diverse parents where the direction is change...and change and chance to varying degrees are what you get...I think half brothers breed pretty consistently alike here...

Yet, same type and environment and both function as I need. Decided to keep him. Sorted through the bulls to get one tested for sale. Looked at the two year olds and just thought that I could not buy a set of bulls like that and this yearling will join them. Thanks.

10 steers sent to the works 10 days ago - 10 out of 10 achieved the Silver Fern Farms Eating Quality Master Grade - virtually unheard of to achieve 100% strike rate in a classing system which has evolved with thousands of taste testers and judging panels.  From that classifiers are trained to assess the carcasses using cards with meat colour, fat colour, measurements for fat depth, marbling and actual tests for PH and ossification.  So rare that the local stock buyer employed by Silver Fern Farms went back to the company to check before he sent through the kill sheets - how ya like them apples!!

They were all 2014 born bulls that for one reason or another we decided to steer for management purposes and were sent when it suited us more than when we actually thought they were ready.
Talk about sticking one to all those twits  Twisted Evil  Twisted Evil  who try to tell us our cattle cannot be any good as their figures are not in top percentile for this or that and we do not have "the" bloodlines .................... here's a thought ............ perhaps the figures are wrong and our cattle are just about right lol! lol!

The steers entire brothers are looking great for the sale on the 13th June.  Been cleaning the woolshed and scraping the yards today thinking "last time" Laughing Laughing  as the new place will have high pressure hoses and the selling and hospitality venues will be purpose built - looking forward to that after over 20 years of cleaning and scraping - gotta say!

Addendum .............. to put our 100% Master Grade result into perspective - according to a carcase trait chaser angus breeder in the South Island they are excited about their 70% strike rate as opposed to the ................ wait for it ......... 29% strike rate nationally. This particular South Island outfit crow about their especially selected IMF bulls from the US with a Breedplan IMF EBV of +7 (the average is +1.5) - the steers we sent have the following IMF EBV's -0.2, -0.2, 0.0, +0.8, 0.0, +1.0 (close to av), +0.6, +0.2, and 0.0 (one of them was not a registered animal so have no EBV's for him) and we have not been actively selecting for any EBV - just good cattle ...................
