PostSubject: 2015 Great Lakes Gathering   Sun Jan 18, 2015 11:54 am

I'd like to officially announce the 2015 Gathering, which will take place in Michigan from Tuesday, July 21st to Saturday, July 25th.  The festivities will begin in lower Michigan, at our farm near Zeeland.  Tuesday and Wednesday will be pretty flexible as people trickle in, there will be a lot of options for the ladies (and Briann) in nearby Holland and Saugatuck.  Thursday morning we will begin the trek northward through the lower peninsula, and make our way to Mackinac Island, where we will spend the night.  On Friday we will tour the upper peninsula as we head west to the ranch near Ontonagon.  The official gathering will conclude on Saturday with a tour of the ranch and surrounding area.  From there, people can head west or south through Wisconsin, or back through Michigan.  Because of the time, distance, and expense involved, everyone is welcome to attend as much or as little of the itinerary as they would like.

Many more details to follow, but I wanted to end my procrastination and get the dates out there so everyone could plan their schedules.  Please call or PM me or MK with any questions.

Oh my. We have a nephew wedding on the 25th back home-Northern Indiana. I may be able to show my ugly face at the Zeeland segment.

Otherwise, Tom, is the Briann-Saugatuck reference a more than back-handed poke? Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil Razz

can anyone ride the dunes? thinking of trading Kubota in for a RZR 4 seater.
if wife is willing to look at cattle see nothing wrong with shopping. it's called brownie points and I need all I can get.

nice Tom; expecting several first timer`s...and the females are always our priority...Briann has shopped Holland before; he can vouch for the beauty of the place...plenty to enjoy; I am trying to crowd some cattle stuff into my "must do" list...Smile

Warren, that would be great if you could make it up here before the wedding, Briann could show you around the quaint little shops in downtown Saugatuck.  A few years ago I hosted the dealer's conference for Byron Seeds, an Amish company.  While the guys were attending meetings, all of the Amish wives went on the Saugatuck Dune Rides.  I think it was the highlight of their trip; probably way more horsepower than they were used to.

I've taken Briann on the dune ride before, but now he wants more adventure.  So if any other adrenaline junkies would like to join him, here are the links for the Milwaukee to Muskegon car ferry and Silver Lake State Park.

Will see if I can pull this off. We know and love Michigan-are Wolverine fans as our family lived in Pinckney for about 10 years...my father began an aluminum boat business there. Last summer we spent an extended family gathering in Harbor Springs-one of our favorite vacation areas. A friend married a Saugatuck girl and we have been there quite a few times...it is very nice but does have a certain reputation  Wink

And for those who do not know, the west coast of Michigan is a tremendous fruit -growing area. In late July there will be a cornucopia of exceptional fruit available. The quality is second to none.

hoping several people going quietly about the business of line development of Tru-X stock and other close breds might show up for a first time meet with folks here...if not, there`s plenty of time to meet, greet, and eat...most important is to stay busy breeding...Tom has a long range Tru-X refinement project begun/going; aided and abetted by Dan Brown and myself...not to mention the common source of it all, Shoshone...
It will be fun to go back in 10 years and repeat the Gathering cycle all over again to see what has been accomplished/changed...probably be a couple places we will need to find substitutes for Wink ...that too, is part of the building process... cheers

The horse and carriage is appealing but doesn't seem to have adequate ceiling for everyone's name and date stamp.  For shopping and frequent stops this bus driver comes highly recommended.  Not sure Tom, but will Michigan require him to have a CDL or an entertainer's permit?

looks great Tom, thanks for the links.
rather shop with the wife then for a bull. adrenaline junkie, midlife crisis, just replacing the excitement of browsing bull catalogs.

how I feel at bulls sales today.

I fly a star ship
Across the universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps, I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again and again and again
And again and again and again

I'd like to make reservations for Mackinac Island soon and need an approximate room count.  I should be able to get most of the rooms at our favorite hotel:

http://www.mainstreetinnandsuites.com/

Here's what I'm assuming so far:

Mike - 4 or 8
Tom - 4
Briann - 2
Craig - 2
Jon N. - 1? (2?)
Leroy, Mark - 2?
Hobson - 2
Harry - 2
Chad - 3?

Let me know who I'm missing and I'll get the rooms reserved.

Grassy? JonKen? Mean? Wink

Sorry Tom I'd love to attend but with moving everything across country to the new place its not going to happen this summer. Liked your cows and grass pictures though - very similar to here in many respects.

Chris,
had a good Italian beer the other night at Carmine`s...but no better than the master micro-brewer... Smile Be getting prepped for 2016; you know, the typical registered stuff, more feed while pretending to half feed; creep feed to "ease weaning", and a cow sort for the back 80 because 40 ain`t enough space Smile

What the heck? You'll already be halfway here, just keep going. I was going to have you bring the foundation stock for the ALA.

is the red pile cherries? I hope they are not a by-product of masochistic cherries...

Not masochistic, just maraschino. It's part of my top-secret, proprietary finishing ration, that includes tart cherries, defatted wheat germ, and malted barley from the local microbrewery. Grassfed is sooooooo yesterday. And why is everyone always amazed at my bunker hygiene?

I think a little messy by Wulf Cattle standards...but who I am I to say; when I can`t get the cherry pedigrees correct... Smile

piece of a note from EdO...fits fine under this topic...and many others...

Hello Mike.....Was thumbing through the corner today and got a big "out loud" laugh at some of the comments you guys put on each other...Great one liners and humor...."Tis good to find humor in one's self." .....Why, If I had Googled an image of my bull and someone posted, "Do you not have a knife?" I would have been ready to kill somebody. ha! "Seriously, it is good to take myself less SERIOUSLY." Larry once asked me, "Ed, was it not more fun when we were ignorant ?
