OK 2 weeks from now will be sipping on a Byar's Brew by a fake fire pit wishing I was at the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis.
things to do before the 2nd
move pairs to shortest grass so calves will appear bigger, can grow on blue sky, water, and sticks, plus we then can determine proper foot structure.
start feeding cake so cows will hang around for a bunch of out-of-towners....good time to spray for flies.
mow the weeds around the house....would hate for the fire to jump out of the fake pit.
make up excuses for the bad eyes.
make a ranch for lease sign...wife wants me to retire and spend more time camping.
lock cats in barn to remove mice, where we will be eating.
move bone pile....smells better and easier digging in new soil for the young ones.
check bulls...remove cripples.
butcher long toed, bad bagged, mean old nag, that is a daughter of the sister of the $31,000 short peckered bull, that's been open the last 2 years...would hate for anyone to see her plus need more hamburger.

now for the hard part.
get a head count for meal times. need to know how big a can of Bushs Baked Beans and how much Kool Aid will be needed....plus who will be sticking around for supper up town.

Larkota thinking driving to Canada was easier.

Camping/staying in "Arm Pit" for two weeks may prove to be more difficult, than working down in the cave itself. After working in the heat and dry on top, the  inside of the cave will be a welcome relief.

It is on the way to Red Lodge, a 2-3 hr. detour????????????

Day three already, Briann's all set For company....this is most exciting gathering yet...we gathered the candidates year 1, began the sort year 2, reinforced the concepts year 3, and now in year 4 , we have seen a version of the promised land, finally something worthy to build a bridge to independently or cooperatively depending on scope of interest....
Another 4 or 5 years, we'll have this concept fleshed out and running....and have guys less than 45 yrs of age doing it  cheers oh to be young again  Very Happy

Reinforcement today...you can buy time...and Briann has sure bought time economically and has bred his way more quickly as well by utilizing prepotency....

Hope everyone is home safe and sound....thx for your efforts in putting a little dust on the road less traveled...some may step in your tracks someday, but it won't be you, for this road doesn't go in circles...
We've seen the blueprint and it's not designed on papers; but on principles...and the breeders are building it from the cow up...

Same ole story as always on the first ride through Rod's cows....Tru-line works....always uniform bloomy calves with cows in condition ...
New folks along today for their first "seeing is believing" look at more of Rod's cows....
across the Big Horns this afternoon to the Origin of Tru-line...the tributaries increase to spread this concept into new places...
It's all good  cheers

A little layover in the cities on the road less traveled gives time again to thank everyone ;especially Leroy , Mark, and Briann...the Tru-line roadmap stops are being filled in; the final destination has always been clearly envisioned...opportunities are seemingly just falling out of the sky; hitching the wagon to a star begun just this morning; obviously, I had been looking for love in all the wrong places; no point looking for anything in the registered paper wastebasket of traditional chicanery...
The 2017 Gathering  will be in Kentucky...just letting you know now so you can book rooms  Very Happy
In the interim , MO potential looms large...so many cows, so many hoops, so few breeders
...time to SHOW our worth... cheers

interesting re-reading and adding to Reflections Condensed this morning; Larry`s comments after the first Gathering...there`s always going to be bumps; even in The Road Less Traveled...and the road less traveled can get pretty crowded; for it is pretty damn narrow...but survival of the fittest never fails to produce the correct results ...

Forward  cheers

We want to thank each and every one of you for taking time out of your busy lives to be a part of the 2014 Great Plains Gathering. Leroy and Mark: We regret missing the Minnesota tour, sure heard a lot of positive comments.
Chris: a shout out to you for the Angus Drool.
Rod: We were sure impressed with how much you've done with a group of cull bulls.
Gary: For allowing us to view the bulls and pairs and where Tru-Line started.
Betty: for opening up your Red Lodge home to all of us.
Linda, Christina, Mark: for letting Lisa tag along with you ahead of the group
Mike: for gathering and keeping together a group of simple minded breeders making our lives easier so we can get away and enjoy trips like this.

Briann and Lisa

The 2016 Tru-line Gathering will be in Missouri...

Wulf Cattle was an eye opener ; a first look for me at modern agriculture; the first time a gathering has been exposed to terminal genetics other than the few Char`s we saw at Hilly`s last year...

a youtube video worthy of study...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFuAvMFstIQ

AND, I think we were maybe the first time Wulf had been exposed to pure maternal beef genetics...

but certainly not the first time exposed to maternal/terminal complementarity...

Briann and Lisa

I`ll add that Briann is breeding a nice set of L1 {green tag} heifers he will have for sale...contact him to be put on his notion list...notion list= when the notion hits him to sell them; an instinct that can be influenced by money  Smile

L1 means line crossed...are they pure lines? no, nor will they, or mine, or Shoshone, or Lents,  ever be in the context below...

http://passel.unl.edu/pages/informationmodule.php?idinformationmodule=1075412493&topicorder=1&maxto=12&minto=1

my thoughts are the greens may be superior production stock to either "parent lines" {yellow and blue} that create the greens when crossed...

may be superior sounds like registurd B.S.   old habits are hard to break.

with all the moisture we have been getting, think Will picked a bad time to get out of cattle and into Big time grain farming.  This is so dam easy could just take them to the sale barn, calf them and sell as pairs, or abort them and sell as feeders. whatever is maximum fun.  Razz

Larkota no matter where I go or who I talk too ....grass is hard to come by.
